Background

Cocoona is a leading plastic surgery and aesthetic clinic in Dubai. Before we started working with them in 2015, they were already doing PPC and SEO with another Dubai-based digital marketing agency.

They first moved the SEO for their English website to us. Happy with our performance on SEO over a period of 2 years, they decided to move their PPC campaigns and SEO for their Arabic website also to us in 2017.

Strategy
  • When we started SEO with Cocoona in 2015, they were just in the process of launching their new website with another agency. We analyzed and gave recommendations for certain quick changes that could be done at that late stage, which would increase the effectiveness of the website, particularly with regard to the site structure. While the website was in the final stages of development, we carefully chose the SEO keywords after in-depth research.
  • We used a variety of leading SEO keyword research tools to get comprehensive data, and then used a systematic and analytical approach to include (or exclude) the keywords for SEO.With the building blocks in place, we commenced the comprehensive on-page SEO activities based on our WSI checklist which lists 40+ setup items. Once complete, we progressed to the monthly off-page optimization activities, which were carefully planned to give the best results, build strong backlinks and increase the domain authority of the website. Growth in organic traffic was closely monitored, and the SEO strategy and link building activities adapted as needed. Over time we also convinced the management to enhance website content to give a greater boost to the SEO efforts, which was agreed to in mid-2017.
  • We wrote detailed content for the top 10 surgeries provided by Cocoona & the inclusion of the new keyword enriched content on the website resulted in a sharp and immediate increase in keyword rankings and organic traffic from mid-2017 onwards as new content for each of the 10 surgeries went live over a period of 4 months.
  • From mid-2018 onwards, we started to request the Cocoona management to develop a new website to keep up with the times, else we were certain to see declining SEO performance, despite all other actions being on-point. In Apr 2019, the management agreed to the new website and in Jan 2020, the new website went live.
  • Meanwhile, in 2019, with the older site, we saw a few months of declining organic traffic, much like we had predicted. But that reversed and improved immediately once the new site went live.
Results

At the time of taking baseline rankings on commencement of SEO, we had 11 out of the 40 chosen keywords on Page 1 of Google, and 14 keywords were either not ranked at all or ranked beyond Page 5/ Position 50 of the search results.

Over a period of 24 months SEO commencement, we had 22 keywords ranked on Page 1 (early-2017).

Thereafter, once new content started to be implemented on the website from mid-2017 onwards, we had 31 out of the 40 keywords on Page 1 by end-2017.

From Jan 2020, once the new website went live, the client increased the English SEO keywords to 50. As of Aug 31, 2020, we had 43 of the 50 keywords on Page 1, of which 23 keywords were on Rank 1.

In addition, 21 out of 30 Arabic keywords were on Page 1.

Improvement in rankings is not the main KPI of SEO performance. Growth in organic traffic and conversions are the true indicators of SEO results.

Here too, the results were remarkable. In 2020, despite the COVID-19 situation, organic traffic and conversions were nearly 2X the traffic and conversions for the same period last year (Jun-Aug 2020 vs Jun-Aug 2019).
